Clutch Head Screws—often referred to as butterfly or hourglass recess screws—are engineered specifically for high-torque applications where tamper resistance and zero-slip assembly operations are required. The recess profile exhibits a unique shape that matches the driving tool over a broad surface area rather than a series of sharp edges. This ensures that the driving force is distributed evenly, minimizing the localized shear stresses that lead to fastener stripping, head deformation, or premature driver tool wear.

Type A Clutch Head Screws are designed to be permanent tamper-resistant fasteners. The geometry of the recess only has flat contact points for clockwise rotation. When rotated counter-clockwise, the tool face slides off the sloped surface of the recess. They cannot be removed with conventional tools. Removal typically requires specialized extraction tools, drilling out the head, or grinding a flat groove onto the head, making them ideal for high-security applications where tampering is a risk.
Hydrogen embrittlement is a critical risk for high-tensile fasteners (typically grades 10.9 and above) that undergo acid pickling and electroplating. At Ningyuan, we enforce strict baking procedures post-plating. Fasteners are placed in temperature-controlled baking ovens (typically at 200°C) within 4 hours of electroplating for a minimum of 4 to 8 hours. This process allows trapped hydrogen atoms to diffuse out of the steel grid, ensuring the structural stability of the product under tension.
For highly corrosive environments, such as solar fields near oceans or industrial chemical areas, we suggest Hot-Dip Galvanizing (HDG) or Dacromet coating. HDG coats the fastener in a thick zinc alloy layer, protecting the underlying steel from moisture. Dacromet coating is a thin-film zinc-aluminum dispersion that offers high salt-spray resistance (up to 1000+ hours without red rust) without the threat of hydrogen embrittlement, keeping thread tolerances tight.
