Self-drilling screws feature a tip shaped like a drill bit, enabling them to drill, tap, and secure metal sheets in a single operation, eliminating the need for pre-punched pilot holes. Self-tapping screws, on the other hand, require a pre-drilled hole and are designed to cut or form mating threads as they are inserted. Self-drilling screws are highly preferred in roofing and steel structural assembly due to speed and efficiency.
Hydrogen embrittlement is minimized by strict post-electroplating baking protocols. High-tensile fasteners (Class 8.8 and above) undergo baking at 200°C to 220°C for at least 4 to 8 hours within a critical 4-hour window post-electroplating. This drives out any diffusible hydrogen introduced during the acid cleaning or plating phases.
For severe corrosive conditions (such as coastal industrial zones or chemical processing areas), we recommend hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) with a minimum coating thickness of 45–55 microns, or specialized multi-layer organic zinc coatings.
